Our Goal is Long Horns!

Spring is  the time for spring April showers, May flowers and more shows and sales.  In February the Youth Autobahn Scholarship Tour was held in Forth Worth.  This Tour has a goal for each child that participates in the events, "All young people should be able to receive a college education if they desire one" as stated by the Autobahn owner John Chase.  On the weekend of February 19th, 134, exhibitors attended the 2012 Autobahn Classic is hopes to win a scholarship and participate in various events.  Of these 134, 24 joined the Classic for the first time, one being
Justin Crumpton (grandson of Larry and Pam Crumpton of XC Longhorns!).

Justin participated in three events:  the speech contest, junior showmanship, and team penning.  Even though this was his first time to show he was instantly welcomed by each exhibitor, sponsor, and event coordinator.  Justin won first place in junior showmanship and the junior speech contest.  He would not have been able to be so successful at the 2012 Classic if it were not for the help of the Faske family and their beautiful longhorn, and the countelss amount of support from the Autobahn Classic.  Justin won a $2,500 scholarship that he can put towards his future goal of becoming a college graduate.

March has been litterally a breath of fresh air here in Central Texas!  Spring rains have filled the ponds, tanks and pastures here at XC Longhorn Ranch.  This part of Texas has seen more rain in the past few weeks than we did all of last summer, temperatures are seasonal, and the calves are hitting the ground!  What could be better?

The first Longhorns and Lace Benefit and Sale was held March 2-3 in Marietta, Oklahoma.  We were not able to attend but from all accounts the event was a great success.  A great crowd enjoyed marvelous food, outstanding entertainment, and fine longhorns to buy!  Our congratulations to the hostesses:  Mollly Clubb, Jaymie Feldmann, Tessa Milsap for all their hard work and the resulting $20,000 donation to Operation Warrior Foundation.  We are making plans now to consign and attend next year's Longhorns and Lace!

The 8th Annual Legacy was held in Dallas at the Hyatt Regency March 16 and 17 with record crowds and sales.  XC Longhorns added to our herd with purchase at this sale of an embryo calf from K&C Longhorns.  (The calf was due in April and has K.C. Jubilee as dam and Hunts Command Respect as sire.  We were certainly surprised when three weeks early on March 29 not one, but two bull calves were born!  Both are doing well and you can see them and  follow their saga on our Facebook page!)

Also while at the Legacy we were able to visit with old friends and make new ones.  We were able to spend some time with David and Linda Mills of Legend Valley Ranch in Cedar Park Texas who own one of our first embryo heifers out of our RM Touch N Whirl Pat and Rodeo Max ST.  Pat's picture and one of the calf can be seen at TLBAA'S  H.O.R.N.S. under Search Animal/ RM Touch N Whirl Pat/This Animal's Influence in the middle of the page!

Upcoming news in May on XC Longhorns will include highlights of our two outstanding Junior Herd Sires:  WF Gin, son of Top Caliber and XC Rio Andy, son of JP Rio Grande. They join our Herd Sire, J.R. Spotlight from from Ron and Jo Jones at Jones Ranch and son of J.R. Ramrod.  Pictures, pedigrees, and measurements can be found on our "Bulls" page on this website!
